Grad School / Quick Payoff

Looking for advice for my girlfriend. She is starting her second year of grad school and looking to figure out her best loan options. So far she took the max unsubsidized of 20k. She is going to need approximately 20k more and I’m not sure the PLUS loan will her best option at 7%. The big thing for her is that she will be able to pay it off in October of 2020 with a settlement agreement which she receives at 30. So she will only have the loans for 13-14 months. Trying to determine how she can pay the least in interest. She has a 750+ credit score so I’m thinking private loans may save us a big chunk. Probably should’ve went private for the whole amount and ditched federal? Theres usually not a early payoff penalty correct? Thanks
